Night Yard Hostler

Reports To :

Transportation Manager

Job Summary:

Operates tractor-trailer equipment or switching equipment on company property for docking and loading/unloading of product. Fuels tractor-trailer equipment on a daily basis. Cleans off returning trailers to prep for the loading function. Washes trailers inside on a weekly basis or as needed.

Essential Functions:

Operate commercial motor carrier equipment. Communicate with warehouse and transportation staff on a regular basis to coordinate proper trailer drop & hook location. Verify unit departure times and align equipment accordingly, making sure tractor is hooked appropriate to trailer to route. Inspect and monitor trailer/reefer temperatures. Fuel reefer units and tractors as needed. Performs other related and assigned duties as necessary.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Certification: Must possess a valid Class A CDL License.

Must have a High School Diploma or GED

Experience: Minimum of 1 year driving a tractor-trailer on a Class A license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of (B/basic; J/journey; E/expert):

Dock Safety (B)

Safety and Security Policies and Procedures (J)

Transportation concepts and techniques (J)

DOT regulations, policies, and procedures (B)

Skill and ability to:

Communicate and coordinate effectively with internal staff.

Interpret reefer readings

Work independently

Physical Demands:

Able to stand, walk, and climb to enter and exit out of road and switcher tractor, on a frequent basis.

Capable of lifting product or other supplies ranging from 5 to 100 lbs.

Endure and safely operate equipment in extreme weather and climate conditions.

Physically be able to manually crank trailer landing gear daily on a frequent basis.

Must be able to reach at different heights (4-5 ft) to repetitively open and close trailer doors
