Purpose of Position
The objective of this position is to provide primary operating and maintenance support for heat treatment assets. The position also requires strong operating skills for additional laboratory scale equipment. Overall, this position is the lead for maintenance, operations, metallographic data collection and analysis, process data collection and analysis, safety, and essential documentation.
This position works closely with R&D engineers and specialists, suppliers, customers (internal and external) and project leaders to ensure that tests are executed in a timely manner and in alignment with the needs of the Business Units and Technology. This position contributes to laboratory leadership from an advanced testing perspective to include developing and conducting associated testing, maintaining a safe/clean laboratory environment, and interfacing with team members to maintain equipment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain heat treatment asset, conduct routine maintenance, and assist with recipe development.
- Operate and maintain laboratory testing equipment as requested.
- Develop ideas for continuous improvement.
- Evaluate metallurgical characteristics of test samples as well as conduct statistical data analysis and author test reports.
- Oversee and coordinate metallurgical, mechanical testing, and process test sample preparation.
- Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of testing plans, status, and results.
- Conduct metallurgical testing such as microstructure, microhardness for internal and external customers through Technology Service Request (TSR) system.
- Maintain communication with appropriate associates and vendors.
- Cross-train in other Material Characterization Labs to provide backup.
- Complete 5S audits (as assigned), maintain a clean and orderly laboratory; ensure proper machine maintenance and operation and safe storage of chemicals and fluids.

Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's degree in Engineering, Business or related field with 2 to 3 years of experience, or
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or related field with 0 to 1 years of experience.
