Position Summary: The role of the Maintenance Planner is to improve work force productivity and work quality by anticipating and eliminating potential delays through planning and coordination of manpower, parts, material, and equipment access. The planner focuses on anticipated labor--in order to provide the Maintenance Department an adequate amount of work planned, approved, and ready to execute. Planners use personal experience and file information to develop work plans aimed at avoiding potential work delays and quality or safety problems. This key position is designed to help reduce required maintenance costs and improve uptime of major assets. The planning position plays an essential role in efficiently utilizing our maintenance and contractor workforces.
Essential Job Duties:
- Detailed job planning for both standard and preventive maintenance work including:
- Researching and scoping of work to bring the functionality of assets back to the original design specifications or a state improved from original design limits.
- Estimating of material and labor (internal and external) job requirements.
- Developing task instructions including items such as safety procedures, work instructions, engineering drawings, permits, and other pertinent information.
- Identifying tool and equipment requirements.
- Developing job material lists by analyzing bill of materials (BOMs) and engineering drawings as well as on site walk downs.
- Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) work order management including:
- Reviewing work requests to be planned, rejected, or added to the scope of another request.
- Creating work orders from work requests and ensuring the proper assets are charged on work orders in the CMMS.
- Enters CMMS system reservations for all planned material requirements.
- Responsible for the maintenance of the BOM (Parts lists) for assets including ensuring current information is accurate.
- Enters purchase requisitions for all planned services.
- Maintenance, Repair, & Operation (MRO) Supply Chain Coordination including:
- Creation of purchase requisitions for planned work.
- Creation of stock reservations for planned work.
- Pick Ticket creation for planned work.
- Assist Storeroom function in the kitting and staging of job material requirements.
- Coordinating with operations, purchasing, materials management, maintenance personnel and maintenance management
- Planning and scheduling for weekly schedules and shutdowns (major and minor)
- Gantt charts
- Weekly work Schedule for Area Manger approval
- Critical Path Analysis
- Resource leveling
- Development of Planner reference systems including a file of Planned Job Packages for recurring jobs, plus labor and material libraries for each piece of equipment in the CMMS system and externally.
- Keeps the Maintenance Manager informed of abnormal or critical situations and seeks advice on matters outside the Planner's knowledge or authority.
- Identifies recommendations and or areas for improvements.
- Participation in budgetary preparation, tracking, and analysis.
- Assists the Maintenance Manager and Production Manager in periodic analysis of cost trends with recommendations for continual improvement.
- Reviews all work order feedback and updates PMs and Standard Work Orders accordingly.
Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). 8 years of industrial maintenance experience. 1 year of maintenance planning experience preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: The ability to qualify for Forklift license and Valid Driver's License required.
Language Skills: Ability to read, interpret, and create documents such as safety rules, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and complete necessary CMMS forms. Ability to speak effectively with fellow employees and/or customers.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, rate, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, schedule, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables; problem solving ability. Ability to create appropriate processes and plans to accomplish set goals and objectives for the position and the department.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, and use hands/arms. The employee is regularly required to talk, hear at conversational level, and smell. The employee is occasionally required to walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift/move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds. Moving/lifting greater than 50 pounds requires assistance from another employee or a lifting device/hoist. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Required Personal Protective Equipment: Employee is required to wear proper safety eyewear, hearing protection, and steel-toed shoes at all times while on the plant floor.
